I expected a bit more from this movie than what it gave me. Usually war movies are decent, add in the emotional impact of a dog, and in theory the recipe for a successful movie is sound. That is not so with Megan Leavey.
I found myself waiting for the movie to actually start. It all felt like build up. I was being shown this world and needed to be given enough background to fully appreciate the story once it was told. The problem is, the entire movie was like that. It never reached the meat or point of things. It was all just one long drawn out introduction.
The acting was okay, the world building beyond what was needed, and the dogs came off as well trained. But no one’s heart was in it, like they too, thought they were just part of the intro, no need to actually try to get the audience to be attached to them.
So this was a total flop. Maybe someday another attempt will be done.
